You have just completed your last pre-summer orthodontics checkup with Plano Orthodontist, Dr. Issa. Heading on your summer vacation is exciting, so much so that you could forget about your oral hygiene. We understand that you don’t want to spend your entire vacation worrying about the health of their mouth, so here are a few tips that Dr. Issa has gathered to help you stay worry-free and prevent complications with your braces while you are enjoying your vacation away from your Plano orthodontist.
The first step to ensuring a worry-free vacation is to remember to pack all of the dental care products you need. Even though you will be in a different location, it is still important to remember to keep your routine the same.
Here are a few items that you may need:
- Toothbrush and Toothpaste
- Mouth Wash
- Toothpicks and Floss
- Orthodontic Wax
- A Mirror
Most of these items should be part of your daily oral care routine, so they will be easy to remember. A few of these are easy to forget. It is important that you remember to bring orthodontic wax in the case of potential discomfort in your mouth arising due to your braces. It is also useful to have a small mirror with you to make it easier to check out any issues with your mouth that might occur.
Even though vacation is a break from your daily life, it does not mean you should ignore what foods to eat when wearing braces. The same foods that you avoid because of potential damage to your braces should be ignored while on vacation.
These foods include:
- Gummy and Sticky Foods
- Whole Fruits
- Hard Candy
- Hard Rolls
- Whole Fruits
- Varieties of Nuts
Generally, any food that can stick to your teeth or is hard to bite can cause damage to your braces. If you want to eat fruits, it is important that you cut them into smaller pieces.
If you follow these tips while wearing braces, it is unlikely that you will run into any complications. However, unlikely does not mean impossible. The last tip is to learn about a few orthodontists in the area that you are vacationing in, since you will not be able to go to your normal Plano orthodontist, Dr. Issa. Knowing who you can rely on for service if a complication arises will make dealing with any orthodontic problems much easier.
