Early Orthodontic Treatment in Plano, TX
Orthodontist fixing girl’s dental braces
The goal of early or Phase 1 treatment is to manage the development of the jaws to make room for permanent teeth and improve how the upper and lower jaws fit together. While many issues can be addressed when the child is older, there are a few cases where it is advantageous to fix these problems early. This can maximize long term results and/or reduce overall cost of treatment. An upper jaw that is too narrow or a lower jaw that is not growing enough are examples of issues that might need to be treated early and can prevent more extensive treatment later.
Dr.Hanoun, Dr. Issa and Dr. Rayburn recommend an initial exam around the age of 7. This complimentary exam will give you the information you need to know that your child’s bite and teeth are developing correctly. If your child is not yet in need of treatment, he or she will become a member of our Growth and Development Club, where they’ll be monitored at no charge so that the doctors can assess their teeth and bite as they grow and make any recommendations that they feel would benefit. Some of the results of early treatment may be:
- Room for unerupted adult teeth
- Improved jaw growth to improve facial symmetry
- Reduced risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
- Maintenance existing space for the later eruption of teeth
- Reduced need for teeth removal
Is early Orthodontic treatment necessary?
Early orthodontic treatment can be necessary on certain patients. Our orthodontists at Infinite Orthodontics aim to help each patient achieve a beautiful smile and healthy bite from a young age to avoid and prevent future oral health problems. The problem with misaligned teeth is that misaligned teeth can interfere with proper chewing and will make it difficult to keep your teeth clean.
